daniel lloyd - Gabba WS JerseyBicycling

The Gabba WS Rain Jersey is either the most specialized cycling top on the market, or the most versatile. After several weeks of testing, I’m leaning toward versatile. It’s not a jacket, with half-length sleeves. But it’s not quite a jersey, either, with four-way stretch Windstopper X-Lite Plus fabric that’s burlier than any jersey. Read the rest of this entry »

Rain or cold could’t stop us - Testing the Gabba jersey!

Boys in Black

We finally found the perfect day to really test the Gabba WS Jersey in ridiculous conditions. Andrew Reed was over from the States for our Castelli global creative conference and he really wanted to ride the Mortirolo. The forecast was for driving rain, but we couldn’t really let that stop us, could we?

Sure enough, the climb was tough but the fun came along when the skies just opened up on us about 2km from the top. Fortunately we had our Gabba jackets that use a new 4-way stretch Windstopper to provide stretchy breathable protection from wind and cold, but as a short sleeve cut that prevents heat build-up when riding hard. BodyPaint Bibshorts

pezcycling_The Castelli Body Paint bibshorts are partially the result of feedback from the race team, and up close there’s no denying this is a high-end performance piece. They’re a warm weather garment with a very low cut front and a nice airy mesh in back between the straps.

The main body of the shorts is cut from a single piece of lycra, which is stretchy enough to conform to most bodies and eliminates the need for multi-panels and added seams that can chafe or unravel. It also makes for a smoother fit, which any aerodynamisist worth his weight in smoke trails will confirm creates less airflow turbulence and therefore less drag. (Which should make you faster). klier in flandersIride Seamless base layerThanks to new state-of-the art seamless knitting technology and a moisture-wicking blend of polypropylene, nylon, and lycra, the IRIDE SEAMLESS LONG-SLEEVE BASE LAYER is our softest and most comfortable base layer to date.

Polypropylene is a popular choice for performance base layers as the fabric’s fibers quickly transport moisture away from your skin. Once the moisture has reached this point, the Iride’s nylon layer takes over, transferring the moisture outward to the surface of the garment to evaporate there, keeping you warm and dry.

An extra little feature, a soft thumbs loop holds the sleeves in place, insulating the skin between your jacket and glove. Cool!

Quindici SocksMade from 100% merino wool, the QUINDICI SOFT SOCKS are the ideal choice for long winter rides in cold and windy conditions. With its softness, merino wool keeps your feet warm and comfortable while letting moisture evaporate.

This breathability is especially important for cyclists, as winter months often mean cramming socks into shoes and shoes into booties. Without a means by which moisture can escape, your feet become colder faster, wool socks are an important cold-weather companion. The nice 15cm cuff also offer outstanding angle coverage.
