Two-time US Cyclocross National Champion, Ryan Trebon, pulled on the Castelli Series Leader Jersey last weekend after a strong 2nd-place finish at Starcrossed in Seattle. The 4-race series, Cross After Dark, kicked off the cyclocross season a week ago in Las Vegas, which saw Trebon place 5th overall in a field of international talent.
An early-season race on a dry course presented unique challenges for riders accustomed to racing in rainy, muddy conditions. According to Trebon, the Starcrossed event “was very fast and super bumpy with a lot of direction changes.”
Sue Butler, riding for River City Bicycles-Ridley, finished 3rd at the end of the day. Before the race, she said she was hoping for muddy conditions to prevent the race from being an all-out sprint. Unfortunately, the rain held off throughout the day, making the course dusty and extremely fast.
