SanRemo SpeedSuit for the Italian team.

By Soren Jensen · On September 23, 2011

azzuriThis year’s World Championship has been described as a sprinter’s course, but the team manager of the Italian national squad, Paolo Bettini has warned that any eventual winner on Sunday will have to be far more than just a fast finisher.

“Its going to be a a long and fast race, you’ll have to fight for your postion to avoid crashes in the many snap corners.” Matteo Tossato said.

Castelli followed the Italian National Team on the course on Tuesday, with two laps of the 14 km circuit course riding 42km/t average speed.

castelli_italian_speedsuit“It is a relatively long circuit with many corners, long drags and a technical urban/rural mix, its essential for the riders to position themselves properly and economise their energy.” Bettini said.

Matteo believes that the medals will be decided in a group sprint to the finish line at the top of Geels Hill. For sure, the Italians won’t be sitting waiting on the sprinters tightening the shoe straps, they’ll be part of most breakaways on Sunday.

SANREMO SPEEDSUIT: Five months after Johan Van Summeren (Garmin-Cervélo) soloed to a career-best win in Paris-Roubaix, the same type of SpeedSuit will be worn by the Italian team competing in the road world championships in Copenhagen.

The SanRemo SpeedSuit, jersey-and-shorts combo, effectively enables riders to wear a skinsuit in road races and thus gain an aerodynamic advantage. Testing shows that at 40km/h, the jersey saves between twelve and fifteen watts of energy when compared to a standard clothing combination. It is, it says, worth 45 seconds in time savings.

The innovative SanRemo Speed Suit is so fast that we patented it. For the Worlds, it will remain a tool for a privileged for the Italian National Road Team, but will soon be available through the Castelli Custom Teamwear program – www.serviziocorse.com, and in Castelli Summer colors for Spring 2012
