This year’s World Championship has been described as a sprinter’s course, but the team manager of the Italian national squad, Paolo Bettini has warned that any eventual winner on Sunday will have to be far more than just a fast finisher.
“Its going to be a a long and fast race, you’ll have to fight for your postion to avoid crashes in the many snap corners.” Matteo Tossato said.
Castelli followed the Italian National Team on the course on Tuesday, with two laps of the 14 km circuit course riding 42km/t average speed.
“It is a relatively long circuit with many corners, long drags and a technical urban/rural mix, its essential for the riders to position themselves properly and economise their energy.” Bettini said.
Matteo believes that the medals will be decided in a group sprint to the finish line at the top of Geels Hill. For sure, the Italians won’t be sitting waiting on the sprinters tightening the shoe straps, they’ll be part of most breakaways on Sunday.
