Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre, former Green Jersey Thor Hushovd and Olympic time trial champion Kirsten Armstrong were amongst the men and women featured at the official launch of the new Cervélo TestTeam along Portugal’s Algarve coast on January 18th. A total of 25 men and 12 women make up the 2009 squads, which have the aim of targeting the biggest races in the sport.
The team is committed to clean racing and specifically searched out riders who would live by a strong ethical code. The team will lean heavily on the expanding biological passport program, but also closely monitor riders for any signs of cheating.
The team queried riders and staff to create its foundation of values. Four words are written along the leg of their jersey uniforms – innovate, sacrifice, unite and succeed – with a fifth, honesty, up along the collar.
